In order to avoid paying at the pump this summer, optimize your driving to improve your vehicle’s gas mileage. We at Patrick BMW have crafted three of our top tips to keep you driving efficiently this summer.

·        Use cruise control

·        Cruise control is the simplest method to save on gas and improve your fuel economy and efficiency. Cruise control provides tons of benefits to drivers but one of the biggest ones is that it automatically controls the speed of your vehicle. Engaging the feature is as simple as finding the icon for cruise control on your steering wheel which features a representation of your odometer and an arrow pointing at the odometer. This system allows for a servomechanism to take over the throttle of the car to maintain a steady speed that you set.

·        Avoid excessive acceleration

·        Rapid acceleration, speeding or even braking can waste gas. Specifically, it can lower your gas mileage by about 15 to 30 percent at highway speeds and 10 to 40 percent in stop and go traffic.

·        Limit excessive idling

·        Sitting in your vehicle with the engine idling can be another gas guzzler as idling can use about a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour depending on your engine size and if you’re running the air conditioner. It’s recommended to turn off your engine when your vehicle is parked.

These three tips will allow for your vehicle to be more fuel efficient and will keep you on the road enjoying your summer instead of spending it at the gas station. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle with better fuel economy, Patrick BMW has you covered with our always updating inventory that is bound to have something that fits your needs.
