Additionally, there is an X5 xDrive40e plug-in hybrid edition, featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and a modified automatic eight-speed transmission and a 9-kWh battery pack. Combined, expect this powertrain to output 308 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy for this system is estimated at 56 mpg equivalent in traditional hybrid mode or 24 mpg combined when only running on gas. Finally, there's an xDrive50i with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that outputs 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Non-hybrid models of the X5 have a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Design of BMW X5

The 2017 BMW X5 falls into the midsize luxury SUV class. It's got a passenger capacity of five, but an optional third-row seat can shift that up to seven. There are four trim levels: 35i, 35d, 40d, and 50i. 35i and 35d models have plentiful features including adaptive xenon headlights, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, premium vinyl upholstery, 14-way power-adjustable and heated front seats, a 10.2-inch central display screen, iDrive technology, BMW Assist emergency telematics, a navigation system featuring real-time traffic information, an audio system with nine speakers, and Bluetooth connectivity. Switching to the xDrive40e hybrid model will add in adjustable suspension dampers, hybrid-specific instrumentation including added iDrive menu items, and a rear air suspension. The X5 xDrive50i adds in leather upholstery, a rearview camera, keyless ignition and entry, 16-way power front seats, a premium 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system with satellite radio, and four-zone climate control.
