Under the 7 Series's Hood

The heart of every 2017 BMW 7 Series is their incredibly powerful engines. The base model, 740i, and the next step up, 740i xDrive, are equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, capable of 320 horsepower, 332 lb-ft of torque, and going from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. The 740e, with both a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, is good for 322 horsepower and has an estimated fuel economy of 64 MPGe. The 750i and 750i xDrive are equipped with a 4.4-liter V8 engine that gets them 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Even more impressive, that engine can power them from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. The best engine of all belongs to the M760i xDrive and is an M Performance TwinPower Turbo 12-cylinder V12 good for 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. To accelerate from 0-60, it only takes this engine 3.6 seconds. All models have a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is also standard for all but the 740e, which has all-wheel drive. Additionally, all-wheel drive is available through the xDrive models.

Design of BMW 7 Series

As a full-size luxury sedan, the 2017 BMW 7 Series has a five passenger capacity. These passengers will be coddled in comfort even in the base 740i model, with features like a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, wood trim, leather upholstery, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, automatic wipers and high beams, and 10-way power-adjustable heated front seats. Don't forget additional safety and technological features like driver memory settings, a 10.2-inch central display, an iDrive infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, power-folding heated side mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, and front and rear parking sensors. From there, the remaining trims- the 740i xDrive, 740e xDrive iPerformance, 750i, 750i xDrive, Alpina B7, and M760i xDrive- add further luxury features and in the case of the 740e xDrive iPerformance hybrid features and accessories. All models of the 7 Series have a standard long wheelbase that provides ample legroom. The trunk has a luscious 18.2 cubic feet of cargo room.
