The Patrick Dealer Group was founded in 1904 by Hanley Dawson, a bank teller who worked across from the Ford factory in Highland Park, Michigan. He struck a deal with Henry Ford to sell used cars on consignment. And so the legacy of Patrick began.
Hanley Dawson was later awarded the Midwest’s first new Ford franchise. He sold Chevrolet and General Motors cars before his son, Hanley Dawson Jr. took over the dealership. Dawson Jr’s son, Hanley Dawson III eventually joined the team. In 1979, Hanley Dawson III left the dealership to open a showroom in Schaumburg and named Patrick Cadillac after his youngest son, Hanley Dawson IV, who joined the Patrick Dealer Group in 1994. Patrick BMW opened in 1979 at its current location, and has thrived ever since.
